                                                                CALL FOR PAPERS

Call for Papers and Deadline

If you wish to present a paper at the conference, please submit an abstract of no more than 300 words on one of the streams and current topics. Abstracts must be submitted via the the EasyChair online system. Submissions open on 16 October 2017 and close at 6pm on 8 January 2018.

General Information

In general, each panel is 90 minutes long, contains 3 papers each of 20 minutes, leaving 30 minutes for discussion. Stream and Current Topic convenors will provide more specific information on the structure of their sessions, which may differ from this model, nearer to the time.

In line with the SLSA's ethos, papers may be interdisciplinary in nature, and submissions from outside of law are welcome. Similarly, papers concerning socio-legal issues beyond the UK are also welcome.

If your proposal concerns something other than a paper (for example, a joint panel proposal, a 'meet the author' session, a film screening etc.), you should contact the relevant stream or theme convenor to discuss this.

                                                               CALL FOR POSTERS

Submission and Deadline

An abstract of your poster (up to 300 words) should be sent to slsa-2018@bristol.ac.uk with the email subject ‘Poster Abstract’, by 6pm on 28 February 2018. The researcher should bring the poster to registration between 10:00-13:30, Tuesday 27 March 2018.  Posters should not be submitted via the Easy Chair system.

Poster Guidance

Posters should be designed to be A1 size (594 x 841mm) and can be landscape or portrait. They will be mounted on board using blu-tack, which will be provided. The researcher should bring the poster to registration between 10:00-13:30, Tuesday 27 March 2018.

Posters should have a title, and the name of the researcher(s), affiliation(s), and email address(es) should be clearly presented.

Researchers should ensure:

·       Important information should be readable from about 1 metre away

·       The title is short and draws interest

·       The text is clear and to the point

·       The use of bullets, numbering, and headlines present the information clearly

·       Graphics, color and fonts are used effectively

·       The layout is consistent and clean

We are delighted that, as part of SLSA 2018, twenty-one academics and postgraduate researchers will be showcasing their work through the poster presentations. During the conference, posters will be available for viewing in the Great Hall, Wills Memorial Building (next to the publishers). This is the same venue where lunch and tea/coffee will be served, so attendees can take the opportunity during break periods to explore the presenters’ work. This year, the posters address an exciting range of topics, including children’s rights, medical decision-making and technology regulation.

As in previous years, there is a specific poster competition for postgraduate researchers who are presenting. We are very grateful that Wiley Publishing has generously offered to sponsor this year’s contest, and the winner (who will receive a one-hundred pound book voucher) will be announced at the conference dinner. The judging panel for SLSA 2018 is: Professor Rosie Harding, Professor Ian Loader and Dr Naomi Creutzfeldt. Judging will take place on Wednesday 28 March (12.30 pm – 1.30 pm).
