HOW TO BOOK

If you wish to participate in any or all of these activities please book your place in advance by emailing suzanne.mills@bristol.ac.uk. The cost of each activity is set out below and should be paid in cash to the tour operators on the day. Please note places are limited and will be allocated on a first-come first-served basis. In case you have not booked a place in advance, you are welcome to drop in for the tours at the correct times and locations. You will be offered a place in the tour if it is available. 

THE BRISTOL STREET ART TOUR

Information

Without doubt the no. 1 way to discover Banksy, street art and graffiti art in Bristol, quite possibly the no. 1 street art tour in the UK, with press coverage from the New York Times to Chinese TV. Covering Banksy, 30 years of history & and new paintings every week, people now travel from all over the world to experience this walking tour. This is cutting edge, modern art, mixed with history and culture, and we proudly tell the story of Bristol’s incredible creative culture and art scene from the dawn of the 1980’s to the current day.

 

Duration: 90 minutes

SUFFRAGETTE WALK

Information

A walking tour of key locations and places of interest in the Bristol Suffragette movement with Lucienne Boyce.  Lucienne Boyce is a Bristol-based author who writes historical fiction and non-fiction. She has published three historical novels set in the eighteenth century, and a history of the suffragette movement in Bristol and the west country. Her latest novel is The Butcher's Block: A Dan Foster Mystery. Bloodie Bones, the first Dan Foster Mystery, was a winner of the Historical Novel Society Indie Award 2016.

 

Duration: 60 minutes

WILLS MEMORIAL BUILDING TOWER TOUR

Information

Officially opened in 1925, the Wills Memorial Building houses the University’s School of Law and the School of Earth Sciences, in addition to hosting graduation ceremonies twice a year and a whole host of public events.

The tower tours allow the public to see behind the grand facade and experience the splendour of the Great Hall, Council Chamber and ornate libraries. The view from the top of Wills Tower, some 68 metres above Park Street, is unparalleled and tour guides give a unique insight into the history of the building, which was opened by King George V and Queen Mary in 1925 before being badly damaged during the Blitz in 1940.

GUIDED TOUR OF THE CLIFTON SUSPENSION BRIDGE

Information

This tour will give you the chance to learn the story of the bridge. You’ll hear about the competition to design the bridge, a project plagued with problems and how the end result differed from the original design. We’ll tell you about Brunel and his family, explain how a suspension bridge works and how people crossed the gorge before it was built. You’ll hear some amazing stories about the people who used and maintained the bridge and the things we do in winter to keep it working!
