Socio-Legal Issues in Sport

The appropriate relationship between sport and law is a highly contested one and the issue arises in a range of areas. The social and societal context within which sport sits gives rise to particular and peculiar questions as to how and when, if at all, the law should be applied.

We invite submissions which highlight and critique examples of these tensions between the law and sport, either through the exploration of particular examples of the relationship (e.g. on-field crime, doping, dispute resolution, image rights etc.) or by analysis of themes which cut across a range of such instances (e.g. human rights, administrative justice, discrimination, gender etc.).

 

This stream is open to papers addressing these issues as their major theme, but also to those which do so implicitly, in the context of a specific legal or social problem. We particularly encourage submissions from postgraduate students and other early-career researchers.
